Disney Chills: Fiends on the Other Side (Book 2) – Jennifer Brody writing as Vera Strange
Disney, children’s literature, villains, fiction.
Jamal always felt like a shadow, more like in his brother’s shadow. He felt very invisible. One day he receives stuff from his grandma which was just a skull necklace. A man appears and introduces himself as Dr. Facilier. Dr. Facilier wants the necklace but Jamal doesn’t want to trade that but he was willing to trade another item. Little does Jamal know that he must never make deals with the shadow man.
This was exceptionally different and very dark for a children’s book. Like the other one there were a lot of dark themes but not too dark. I wasn’t expecting the author to continue with the same level of horror as the other one but with this one. I loved that there was a reference to the movie. The other book also has references to the movie but it was more evident in this one than the other. Altogether I enjoyed this and can’t wait to find more.
Jar of Hearts – Jennifer Hillier

Five years past and she is released but a few days prior to her being released, a mother and child was found murdered behind her childhood home. Her old friend, Kaiser, slowly pieces the story together as another mother and child was murdered. He speculated it was the father of the children but quickly realizes that the murderer is a different sort of beast and Georgina is in grave danger.
I really really really enjoyed this thriller. I didn’t expect the plot twists at all. I was shocked at who the real murderer was. This book really kept me on my toes as well as made me binge read to find out. I love these types of mystery thrillers with unexpected plot twists. I simply could not put this novel down at all. I had tried my hardest but could not resist. The story telling was regularly paced and very colorful and insightful. The characters felt very genuine and unique that aided the plot to create believability. I had thought something else were to have happened but got another ending that was just as good and satisfactory. Sinister and dark, certainly not for the faint of heart. This book filled my dose for some good mystery thrills I wanted.
Arkham Horror: To Fight the Black Wind – Jennifer Brozek
Mystery, horror, thriller, Arkham Horror, fiction.
Doctor Fern gets a new patient who has nightmares that leave symbols or glyph shaped wounds across her back and legs. Josephine begs Doctor Fern to help her since the previous doctor couldn’t help. Fern goes and tries to find ways to help Josephine and tests out a few therapies to help Josephine. It’s the Black Wind claiming power. Fern has never faced this before and is unprepared to go against this being.
I saw this shelf at a game store and its based from the Arkham Horror Game. However, this is a stand-alone novella that can be read without playing the game. This was a pleasure to read and it was so thrilling I finished the book in a day. Given that this book is small but has a punch of mystery, horror, and thrilling elements. I kind of wished that this novella was longer but it’s a novella for a reason. I enjoyed reading this book. I recommend this book for anyone who’s into this genre.
