Why I Read? – An Inquiry

As I was growing up, literature had been an easier accessible form of entertainment and was more exciting than staring at a television screen. The novel series that made me fall in love with reading was Harry Potter. That moment I had open the pages of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone and read til the end, I knew I loved reading more than watching movies or television shows. Yes, I did enjoy and still enjoy watching television and movies, but books are a better option as a form of entertainment for me personally. I was famously known by my peers to have carried a book in hand and I was fine as being known as either the book worm or bibliophile, as coined from my high school English teacher and my closest best friend.

When reading a fictional novel, no matter what the genre is, gives the reader an insight on a new reality that can become a possibility by telling the story with intricate plots and memorable characters that feel realistic. Personally, whenever I read a fiction novel of any genre, I feel as if I have become the main character or protagonist and live vicariously through that fictional person that an author had made up using his or her creative mind. Different novels took me to different journeys as well as new reading experiences.

For a while, reading was a form of a coping mechanism whenever I felt sad or depressed about how my life was going when I was younger. Books had always been there and I was able to read and felt happier. As an adult I reflect back to this and I am grateful for having read literature all my life. As quoted from a Harry Potter novel, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one remembers to turn on the light – Albus Dumbledore“, I am a better place in my life and always will remember this quote.

Reading literature had helped me decide what I wanted to do currently in college. I want to be apart of the author’s world and write novels. I still would want to enjoy reading, but be apart of the writer’s world. I know that being an author doesn’t guarantee a stable income, but I have plans for a career that I want to go into that would provide just that and I would be able to write as a hobby.

This book blog serves a few purposes and that purpose is partially my passion. I want to share with my followers why I love or not love certain novels. I want to spark up literary discussions to see which readers like what and send me book recommendations. I am passionate about reading and will always want to continue reading.
